George Patrick scores 7,324 pts in Tennessee dec

 

State Meet Highlights

- Five athletes from Tennessee scored nationally ranked marks in the high school decathlon.George Patrick, a senior from Brentwood Academy, won the Division 2 event with a score of 7,324 points, a new US#1. Senior Will Eskew of Montgomery Bell finished second with a US#7 score of 6,333. In the 3A competition, senior Chase Sholl of Rhea County won with a US#2 score of 6,568. Runner-up with 100 fewer points was junior Jacob Sobota of Beardon. His score of 6,468 is a US#6 mark. In the 1A/2A competition, William Stout, a senior from Christ Presbyterian Academy, earned a US#11 in his win with 6,272 points.

- Junior Tyra Gittens, of Ensworth, made her mark on the Division 2 meet. She won the Pentathlon with wins in four of the five events, scoring 3,770 points. Her 100 hurdles time of 14.61 and long jump of 20-0.25 were particularly impressive. However, Gittens was not done. She went on to win the high jump in US#11 clearance of 5-10, as well as picking up individual wins in the long jump (19-7.25), 100 hurdles (14.84) and 200 (24.68). Her pentathlon long jump performance ranks her 15th nationally. 

Terrell Jackson of Memphis University had the top time of the day, winning the Division 2 800 in 1:50.84. 

- Senior Adam Neelly from Gallatin won the 3A discus with a throw of 181-5, a top 100 mark nationally.

- The closest race of the day was in the 3A boys 1,600. Brodey Hasty, a sophomore from Brentwood beat West senior, Adam Johnston, by .02 seconds, 4:14.72 to 4:14.74. 

But the race of the day came at the close with the 3A boys 4x400 Relay. Whitehaven led Memphis Central and Bartlett with the win in 3:20.65. All three teams broke 3:21. 

Kirstin Jones of Whitehaven, a freshman, won the 3A 200 in 24.19. That ranks her #12 for freshman in the country.

MiKayla Thompson, a senior from McGavock, won the 3A discus (149-0) and shot put (45-5.75). Her discus mark is ranked US#36.

 - Junior Kiara Rhodes, of Whitehaven, won the 3A high jump with a clearance of 5-8.

Allie Hughs of Germantown cleared 12-0 in the 3A pole vault

Felicia Phillips of Houston won the 3A 400 in 55.27.

 

Top Teams:

Memphis Central won the boys 3A team title with 74 points. The girls of Whitehaven won the 3A champsionship with 98 points.
